Initial situation
Since 1994, the partner journal Agrarforschung Schweiz has published over 2,600 scientific articles in the form of a monthly print magazine with a simple online archive. Agroscope wanted to make both new articles and the archive accessible to a wider audience and transform the print journal into an extensible open access online platform.
In close co-operation with Magma Branding, who are responsible for the concept and design, Say Hello built a modern and extensible website.
Goals and vision
The conversion of the print magazine into an open-access online platform makes the articles easy to find. Following the automated integration of the extensive data from the long-standing archive, visitors are able to access the content using a dedicated filter tool and enhanced keyword search.
Each article is provided in a print-friendly PDF version, and the website complies with the WCAG usability guidelines .
The project
Thanks to the diverse functions and logical data management opportunities in WordPress, I was able to import more than 2,600 specialised articles and PDFs – some with versions in several languages – during the implementation with the Block Editor, forming them into an online archive. The custom-built import process converted the previous articles into a format compatible with the Block Editor, while PDF attachments and metadata related to the original articles were also integrated.
