Facebook, Twitter and the like have long since taken on a very important role in our everyday social lives. For us as “web creators”, it is therefore all the more important to use these channels correctly.
A few weeks ago, the trade union Unia launched a new campaign. The aim was to make a statement against pay inequalities between the genders. The Unia web team has a lot of experience with WordPress, which is why they were able to realise the campaign page in-house. They then brought us in for the technical realisation of the graphical statement generation tool.
The initial situation
The focus was naturally on the users’ statements. The Unia trade union wanted to provide a mouthpiece for all those who publicly stand up for equal pay and gender equality. Sharing via social media was an important pillar of this.
Form integration
It was clear to us that we wanted to offer users a process that was as intuitive as possible. That’s why the statement can be edited directly in the upload form as a live preview. The selected image can be dragged into the correct position and the other elements such as the name, the statement or the selected badge automatically adapt to the user input.
The WordPress plugin “Contact Form 7” is already in use on the website. We naturally wanted to adopt existing workflows, which is why we implemented the whole thing directly as a Contact Form 7 extension, which can be seamlessly integrated into the existing form.
Social media integration
The individual statements do not have individual detail views but are displayed directly in an overview on the start page. This made sharing, which is based on individual links, a little challenging. We were able to solve this using individual URL parameters.
Much more important, however, was the optimised presentation in the link preview. Here we created an image generator that automatically generates a new image for each statement, which is based on Unia’s visual specifications, contains the users’ statements and is tailored to the respective channels. This enabled us to create an optimised sharing experience.
