A new web design with WordPress for Say Hello: modern technology, accessibility, modular structure and better visibility thanks to SEO optimisation.

If you are reading this blog post, you’re seeing the new design of the Say Hello website, which went live in September 2025.

As any web agency or freelancer can tell you, designing and building your own website is quite time-consuming – there are countless options and you often wonder whether an alternative wouldn’t be better. After almost thirty years of experience in web design and web development, I can confirm that with experience comes a great deal of choice.

I have invested a lot of time in the details of the design and code of the new website and also have many more ideas for new functions and content. I am proud and very happy that the new website is finally online.

The previous appearance of your own website

So, why did the website need to be redesigned in the first place? The old design was great and has worked very well since 2017 – it has received many compliments over the last eight years. However, the custom code didn’t utilise all the modern features that WordPress offers, and the compatibility and maintenance work was taking up more and more time. That’s why I decided to do a complete relaunch.

A change of company ownership last year also provided an impetus for the new look when I took over the agency from my former business partner Nico. An important part of any small business is the unique capabilities it offers, and the company website should reflect not only what it offers, but also the voice of the company.

The new look of the Say Hello website

The new Say Hello website better reflects who I am and shows the topics that are important to me and my clients. From concept and design to programming and content creation, my services can be presented much better than on the previous website. The blog is used more frequently, the work examples are updated and expanded more regularly, and new features are added from time to time.

The minimum viable product

For me, the most important thing was to get the new website online – according to the motto “online is better than finished“. There is no such thing as “finished“: just as a company is constantly evolving, the website and content also need to grow and be developed.

How much work this means depends on how much the website operator wants to invest in online communication. I want to share information about Say Hello and my projects on a more regular basis. Hence the “minimum viable product” approach: the new website contains all the necessary information and fulfils the visual and technical standards that I apply to every project.

Thanks to its modular structure, the website can be expanded at any time without the need for a complete rebuild. My next goal is to provide a complete English translation so that the public, customers and colleagues without any knowledge of German can find all the information they need.

Regular content updates also improve visibility in search engines. The success is already evident: where the old website didn’t appear for an important search term, the new website is already ranked number one for the term the day after launch. Only paid adverts are ranked higher in Google.

Technical accessibility

The main focus of the new website was on modernising the design and technology. During this work, it was, as always, important to consider accessibility as a central criterion.

The new website uses display technologies to optimally support visitors with special accessibility settings. Animations are suppressed for users who do not want movement, and a higher contrast colour palette is automatically used when the higher contrast setting is activated. A “Dark Mode” version, which automatically adapts to the device settings, will follow soon.

Feedback welcome
