An existing client approached me with a request for a simple new website for their local childcare centre. As the old website could no longer be technically supported for much longer, the creation of the new website with WordPress was correspondingly urgent.
Concept and design
The main task in redesigning the project was to adopt the existing content, modernise the design and improve navigation and user-friendliness for smartphone visitors. In addition, content management was to be simplified, which is why the use of the WordPress Block Editor was an obvious choice.

After discussing the project requirements, we decided on a simple, bespoke design with a modernised version of the existing logo and the current colour scheme. I chose the modern, appealing font Work Sans from Google Fonts and embedded the files directly into the website to ensure optimal performance and avoid unnecessary external loading.
I fulfilled the modernisation requirement with a tried-and-tested page layout and clearly visible, fixed navigation on all pages. I was also able to improve the accessibility of the website by optimising the colour contrast.
Content management
Thanks to the optimal use of WordPress’ predefined content elements and the implementation of a customised image carousel, transferring the content before the relaunch was straightforward. The client can now update all the information themselves at any time, and their existing experience with the Block Editor from a previous project made it easier to get started quickly.
